Recently, the China Tourism Research Institute released the World Island Tourism Competitiveness Report. The report shows that the total number of islands in the world is more than 50,000, with a total area of 9.97 million square kilometers, accounting for about 1/15 of the total land area. It is estimated that more than 600 million people live on islands, accounting for about one-tenth of the world's population. The islands are distributed all over the world, and their land area, geographical location, topography and climate conditions are different, forming a rich and colorful island natural scenic spots and human environment.
Spatially, the distribution of island tourist destinations is characterized by "large dispersion and small concentration". At present, there are 70 well-known island tourism destinations in the world, which are distributed in 50 countries. They are mainly located in four hot and subtropical regions: the Mediterranean coast, the Caribbean coast, the islands of Oceania and the islands of Southeast Asia.
So, what is the reason for the success of 70 well-known island tourism? According to the "Global Island Tourism Competitiveness Ranking" published in the report, it mainly monitors and evaluates from four dimensions. These four dimensions are island tourism resources, island tourism reception, Island accessibility and island satisfaction.
Today's island tourism is no longer just about sunbathing on a beach, getting a boat out to sea and building several restaurants to eat seafood. The current destination mainly reflects the level of tourism reception through the construction of tourist reception facilities and cultural entertainment and sports facilities. It consists of six three-level indicators, namely, the number of star hotels, tourist attractions, museums, theaters, art galleries and stadiums.
Similarly, we find that there are some typical development models in the development of island tourism purposes in the world, including: first, high-end holiday driving mode; second, Cruise Port driving mode; third, business entertainment driving mode; fourth, folk customs driving mode. Of course, these four modes have their own emphasis and interweave with each other.
Cruise tourism market shows a rapid growth situation. In recent years, a variety of parent-child cruise tourism products and elderly cruise tourism products emerge in endlessly, rapidly occupying the cruise tourism market, and cruise tourism routes are mostly linked with various islands. Attract more different types of customer groups, thus driving island tourism consumption.
Business-entertainment-driven islands usually do not have a particularly strong natural attraction, nor do they have attractive folk customs. Such islands usually have good economic development and complete infrastructure; the quality of tourism practitioners is high, and they can provide high-quality tourism services for tourists. There are many amusement projects, such as diving, fishing, parachuting, water sports, going to sea, and so on. Young tourists and businessmen are the main tourist groups of these islands. It is through shopping, casinos, golf courses, water sports and other recreational activities that island tourism can increase the added value and attraction of these two groups of people.
However, although the global island tourism is still the "Blue Sea in the Blue Sea", inevitably, there are still five problems in the development of island tourism.
Higher homogeneity of tourism products and insufficient prominence of their characteristics
The marketing promotion of some islands is not enough, and the tourist flow is highly concentrated.
The lack of tourism professionals and the improvement of service level
There are security risks in Island Tourism
Destroying the original ecological environment of the island
